Sometimes you want to catch a short break but you also want to be able to enjoy yourself and relax beyond the usual places you travel to nearby. It’s always tricky to strike a balance between time and distance so this trip was perfect for us to get a more extended sightseeing experience within a limited period of time. Here’s a compilation of the special places we visited on our trip!
Day 1 & 2
We spent the night before on a comfortable super VIP coach with reclinable seats, extended leg rests and in-built charger ports, that took us all the way to Penang while we were sleeping.
Bukit Bendera (Penang Hill)
Our first stop of the day was Bukit Bendera. Otherwise known as Penang Hill, this scenic peak serves up a refreshing, cool atmosphere and a wild ride up the steepest tunnel track on a 5th generation monorail.
Once up there, you can pick from a specialty range of iced desserts with various chocolatey to fruity toppings to enjoy!
Penang Botanic Gardens
Following our invigorating visit to the scenic peaks of Penang, we dropped by the Botanic Gardens for a sighting of cheeky, free-range monkeys and a leisure tram ride through the park.
Uniquely different to other souvenir shopping experiences, the guide brought us to Lim Wah Thai – a local business that produces traditional Chinese herbal soup sachets, delicious assorted Tambun biscuits, ointments and dried fruit snacks.
The items are a specialty to Penang and are a great breath of fresh air as compared to your typical t-shirts and keychain souvenirs.
Day 3
Dinosaur Park
Onwards to Hat Yai, we had a smooth transition at immigration and we greeted our first day in Thailand with a rawr-ing fun time at the Dinosaur Park.
Big Bee & Checking Out the Local Night Market
After our run in with dinosaurs, we dropped by Big Bee to get schooled on honey production and for some sweet treats. Of course once we’ve checked in, we couldn’t miss out on visiting the nearby local night bazaars to grab the many affordable signature desserts like the coconut ice cream and mango glutinous rice plus squeeze in some shopping!
Day 4
Songkhla City
Wrapping up our last day in Hat Yai, we took in the sea breeze and absorbed the sights along the Songkhla City Beach with a sandy horse ride and lunch.
Aside from the sightseeing and shopping, we also got moving with some recreational activities. A one-stop for all activities from archery, ATV rides, elephant rides, gun shooting and even a crocodile show, Chang Puak Camp is the place to go for a nice, fun time. With so much things to do, you can take your pick and have a great time!
Since it was our last night, we couldn’t miss out on this gem of a place. A quick tuk tuk ride will bring you to the Asean Night Bazaar – a huge central market for all things shopping AND food. The entire bazaar is filled with rows and rows of souvenirs that you can bargain over and the whole of the second floor is filled with all kinds of foods to try!
Day 5
Day 5 summed up our trip and we spent the coach ride back to Singapore. With plenty of breaks and entertainment on the coach from movie marathons and games, it was a pleasurable end to our 5D3N trip.
